Quick Start Guide

This guide will help you create your first Origen world and start exploring its 50+ unique biomes. If you haven’t installed Origen yet, check out the Installation guide first.

Creating Your First World

1

Ensure Origen is Installed

Verify that Origen is installed and loaded by checking your server console for:
[Terra] Loading pack: ORIGEN v1.0.0
[Terra] Pack ORIGEN loaded successfully
If you don’t see this message, return to the Installation guide.
2

Configure Your Server

Choose your server platform and configure it to use Origen:For Paper/Spigot Servers:
  1. Stop your server
  2. Edit bukkit.yml in your server root directory
  3. Add or modify the worlds section:
bukkit.yml
worlds:
  world:
    generator: Terra:ORIGEN
  world_nether:
    generator: Terra:ORIGEN
  world_the_end:
    generator: Terra:ORIGEN
For Fabric/Forge Servers:Use Terra’s in-game commands (requires operator permissions):
/terra world create origen_world ORIGEN
This creates a new world called origen_world using the Origen pack.
3

Backup and Delete Old World (if replacing)

Only do this if you want to replace your existing world. Make a backup first!
If you’re replacing an existing world:
  1. Stop your server
  2. Backup your current world folders
  3. Delete the old world directories:
    • world/
    • world_nether/
    • world_the_end/
4

Start Your Server

Start your Minecraft server. Terra will begin generating terrain using the Origen pack.
The first startup may take slightly longer as Terra initializes the Origen configuration.

Verifying Installation

Once your server is running, verify that Origen is working correctly:
1

Join Your Server

Connect to your server using your Minecraft client (version 1.20 or higher).
2

Check Current Biome

Use Terra’s biome info command to see what biome you’re in:
/terra biome info
You should see an Origen biome name such as:
  • FOLIAGE_FORTRESS
  • GLOOMY_GORGE
  • SNOWY_SPIRES
  • LUSH_LOOPS
  • And many more!
3

Observe the Terrain

Look around and you should notice:
  • Dramatic elevation changes: Origen features more vertical terrain than vanilla
  • Unique formations: Giant pillars, arches, plateaus, and canyons
  • Creative biomes: Visually distinct environments unlike vanilla Minecraft
  • Advanced rivers: Broader, deeper rivers that flow naturally through terrain

Understanding Origen’s World

Biome Distribution

Origen uses sophisticated biome distribution:
  • Cellular noise ensures uniform biome sizes
  • Continental system separates land and ocean cleanly
  • Coastal categories: None, narrow, or wide coastlines
  • River variants: Special rivers that flow through mountains

Terrain Features

Key terrain characteristics you’ll encounter:
  • 3D noise generation: Complex, natural-looking terrain shapes
  • Terraced mountains: Stepped elevations with flat areas
  • Advanced erosion: Realistic-looking weathered stone
  • Vertical structures: Pillars, arches, and overhangs
  • Cave rivers: Rivers that flow through mountain caves

Special Biomes

Some biomes have unique spawning rules:
  • Sandy Splits: Canyon biome that carves through any land biome
  • Icy Incisions: Frozen trench that cuts through cold biomes
  • Oasis: Micro-biome that spawns within desert biomes

Customizing Your Experience

Origen offers customization options in the meta.yml file:

Adjusting Biome Size

Edit Terra/packs/origen/meta.yml to modify biome scales:
meta.yml
biome-distribution:
  scales:
biome: 1.0 # Default biome size (increase for larger biomes)
river: 0.8 # River frequency (increase for more rivers)
temperature: 1.2 # Temperature zone size
Restart your server after making changes. You’ll need to generate new chunks to see the effects.

Choosing Distribution Presets

Origen includes multiple distribution presets in pack.yml:
  • Default: Balanced land/ocean with all biome types
  • Rearth: Custom distribution by the pack creator (currently active)
  • Single: For testing individual biomes
To switch presets, edit pack.yml and uncomment your preferred option.
