Reviews are at the heart of AniDojo. Share your thoughts, help others discover great anime, and contribute to the community. This guide covers everything from writing your first review to managing published reviews.

Accessing Your Reviews

View all your reviews by navigating to My Reviews in the sidebar or going to /my-reviews.

Creating a Review

Find the Anime

Navigate to the anime detail page by:
  • Browsing or searching for the anime
  • Clicking on it from your lists
  • Using the dashboard recommendations

Start Your Review

On the anime detail page, click the Write Review button. This opens the review editor.

Add Your Overall Rating

Rate the anime from 1-10 stars. This is your overall score that appears prominently with your review.

Write Your Review Title

Create a compelling title that summarizes your opinion (e.g., “A Masterpiece of Storytelling” or “Great Animation, Weak Plot”).

Write the Review Body

Share your detailed thoughts in the main text area. Consider discussing:
  • Story and plot
  • Character development
  • Animation quality
  • Sound and music
  • Overall enjoyment
  • Who would enjoy this anime
Take your time writing reviews! Detailed, thoughtful reviews are more helpful to the community.

Rating Categories

AniDojo supports detailed category ratings to help readers understand your opinion:

Category Breakdown

  • Story Rating: Plot, pacing, narrative structure
  • Animation Rating: Visual quality, art style, animation fluidity
  • Sound Rating: Voice acting, music, sound effects
  • Character Rating: Character development, design, relationships
  • Enjoyment Rating: Personal entertainment value
Each category can be rated independently from 1-10.
Category ratings help readers quickly understand which aspects of the anime excel or fall short.

Review Sections

Main Review Body

Your primary review text where you share detailed thoughts. Best practices:
  • Be specific: Mention particular scenes, episodes, or characters
  • Support your opinions: Explain why you felt a certain way
  • Avoid spoilers: Keep major plot points hidden (or use spoiler tags)
  • Be constructive: Even negative reviews can be helpful and respectful

Pros and Cons

Quickly summarize strengths and weaknesses: Pros Field:
  • List what the anime does well
  • Highlight standout features
  • Mention memorable moments
Example: “Stunning animation, compelling protagonist, excellent soundtrack” Cons Field:
  • Note areas for improvement
  • Mention disappointing aspects
  • Point out potential issues
Example: “Slow pacing in middle episodes, underdeveloped side characters”
Pros and cons appear as quick-reference sections at the bottom of your review.

Additional Review Features

Spoiler Warnings

Toggle the Contains Spoilers option if your review discusses:
  • Major plot twists
  • Character deaths
  • Ending details
  • Significant story revelations
Reviews marked with spoilers display a warning to readers.

Watch Status

Indicate your watching status:
  • Completed: Watched all episodes
  • Watching: Currently watching
  • Paused: On hold
  • Dropped: Stopped watching
This context helps readers understand your perspective.

Episodes Watched

Specify how many episodes you watched:
  • Shows you completed the series
  • Explains if review is based on partial viewing
  • Helps readers gauge review credibility

Tags

Add relevant tags to your review:
  • Genre tags (“Action”, “Romance”)
  • Theme tags (“Character Study”, “Plot Twist”)
  • Tone tags (“Dark”, “Wholesome”)
Tags help others find your review and understand content.

Recommendation

Select your recommendation level:
  • Highly Recommended: Must-watch anime
  • Recommended: Worth watching
  • Mixed Feelings: Has strengths and weaknesses
  • Not Recommended: Skip it
This appears as a badge on your review.

Publishing Your Review

Review Your Content

Read through your review to check for:
  • Spelling and grammar
  • Spoilers that should be marked
  • Accuracy of information
  • Tone and clarity

Choose Status

Select publication status:
  • Published: Visible to the community immediately
  • Draft: Save for later editing

Submit

Click the Publish Review or Save Draft button.
Published reviews appear on the anime’s detail page and your profile. Drafts remain private until you publish them.

Managing Your Reviews

Viewing Your Reviews

On the My Reviews page, you’ll see:
  • Anime thumbnail and title
  • Review title
  • Your rating (star display)
  • Publication date
  • Helpful votes count (for published reviews)
  • Review body preview

Editing Reviews

Access Review Options

Click the three-dot menu (⋯) on any review card.

Select Edit

Choose Edit from the dropdown menu. This returns you to the review editor.

Make Changes

Update any aspect of your review:
  • Ratings
  • Title
  • Body text
  • Tags
  • Status

Save Updates

Click Update Review to save your changes.
Edited reviews show the updated date. Consider noting major edits in your review text.

Deleting Reviews

Open Review Menu

Click the three-dot menu (⋯) on the review you want to delete.

Select Delete

Choose Delete from the dropdown menu.

Confirm Deletion

Confirm that you want to permanently delete the review.
Deleting a review is permanent and cannot be undone. The review will be removed from the anime page and your profile.

Sharing Reviews

Share your reviews with others:
  1. Click the three-dot menu (⋯)
  2. Select Share
  3. The anime page URL is copied to your clipboard
  4. Share the link on social media or with friends

Community Interaction

Helpful Votes

Other users can mark your reviews as helpful:
  • Helpful count appears on your review
  • Helps surface quality reviews
  • Shows community appreciation

Review Visibility

Published reviews appear:
  • On the anime’s detail page
  • In your public profile (if enabled)
  • In community review feeds
  • In search results
Helpful, detailed reviews that avoid spoilers tend to receive more positive engagement!

Writing Great Reviews

Do’s

Be honest - Share your genuine opinion ✅ Be specific - Cite examples from the anime ✅ Be balanced - Acknowledge both strengths and weaknesses ✅ Be respectful - Respect others’ opinions ✅ Be helpful - Help readers decide if they’d enjoy it ✅ Proofread - Check spelling and grammar

Don’ts

Don’t spoil - Mark spoilers or avoid them ❌ Don’t attack - No personal attacks on creators or fans ❌ Don’t spam - One review per anime ❌ Don’t plagiarize - Write original content ❌ Don’t rate without watching - Base reviews on actual viewing

Track your reviewing activity:
  • Total reviews written
  • Average rating given
  • Most reviewed genres
  • Helpful votes received
  • Review streak
Your review statistics appear on your profile page and help showcase your contributions to the community.

Tips for Review Success

  1. Watch the full anime - Complete it before reviewing when possible
