Your docs, your frontend, our content engine
SUMMARY

Learn more about what owning your frontend means for customizability, self-hosting, and keeping AI-powered search and chat without giving up control.

We built Mintlify so teams could ship great developer docs without building infrastructure. That works for most companies but not all.

Some of our largest customers need more flexibility: a docs experience embedded inside their developer console, a fully custom UI that matches their product, or a self-hosted frontend that satisfies the whole team.

Today, enterprise teams can now build and own their documentation frontend while keeping Mintlify's content engine, AI features, and editor behind the scenes.

Check out the open source starter kit for custom frontends: mintlify-astro-starter.

Why this matters for enterprise teams

Embed docs where developers already are

Your developers shouldn't have to leave your platform to read your docs. Embed documentation directly into a developer console, dashboard, or portal. AI-powered search and chat work inside your experience, not on a separate site.

Build the experience your brand needs

Enterprise docs aren't one-size-fits-all. Some teams need custom components, non-standard layouts, or deep integrations with internal tools. You get full control over the frontend without restrictions on design systems or how you ship.

Self-host without giving up AI

Host the frontend on your own infrastructure, behind your own firewall, under your own access controls. Mintlify's content engine, search, and AI chat still work. No vendor-hosted pages required.

If your organization has hard requirements around data residency and hosting control, this was designed with that in mind.

How it works

New customers

We translate your Mintlify content into a format Astro can consume. Then, point the integration at your MDX files and docs.json config, and Mintlify handles the rest: resolving snippets, extracting components, copying static assets, and wiring everything into your Astro build.

Your content stays in your GitHub repo and your workflow doesn't change, you just control what the output looks like.

Existing customers

If you're already on Mintlify, we can help ensure everything you’ve built carries over. Reach out to our team to get started.
