Sahaj Hospitals welcomes visitors as partners in patient care. We believe family and friend support contributes to patient recovery. However, to ensure patient rest and safety, we maintain specific visiting hours and policies.

Visiting hours may be modified based on patient condition, medical procedures, or infection control requirements. Always check with the nursing station before visiting.

Visitor Limits

Number of Visitors

  • General Ward: Maximum 2 visitors per patient at a time
  • Semi-Private Room: Maximum 2 visitors per patient at a time
  • Private Room: Maximum 3 visitors at a time
  • ICU/Critical Care: Only 1 visitor at a time
  • Pediatric Patients: 2 adults plus siblings (with restrictions)
During high census or special circumstances, the hospital may further restrict visitor numbers. Medical teams and procedures always take priority over visiting.

Visitor Requirements

Age Restrictions

  • Visitors must be 12 years or older for most departments
  • Children under 12 may visit private rooms with special permission
  • ICU and isolation units: 18 years or older only
  • No age restriction for siblings visiting pediatric or maternity patients (with parental supervision)

Health Screening

All visitors must:

Check-In at Reception

Report to the floor reception desk and provide your name and patient’s name/room number.

Health Declaration

Confirm you are free from fever, cough, cold, or other contagious illness. Visitors with symptoms will not be permitted.

Receive Visitor Pass

Obtain and wear a visitor pass at all times while in patient care areas.

Hand Hygiene

Sanitize hands before entering and after leaving the patient room. Hand sanitizer stations are available throughout the hospital.
Visitors with fever (>100.4°F), cough, cold, rash, vomiting, diarrhea, or other signs of infection will not be permitted to visit. This protects vulnerable patients.

Visitor Guidelines

Do’s

  • ✓ Wash or sanitize hands before and after visiting
  • ✓ Wear your visitor pass visibly at all times
  • ✓ Keep voices low and minimize noise
  • ✓ Follow all instructions from hospital staff
  • ✓ Respect patient privacy in multi-bed rooms
  • ✓ Use designated waiting areas when not in patient rooms
  • ✓ Turn off or silence mobile phones
  • ✓ Ask permission before taking photographs
  • ✓ Support the patient’s rest and recovery
  • ✓ Follow all infection control precautions (masks, gowns, gloves) if required

Don’ts

  • ✗ Do not visit if you are unwell
  • ✗ Do not bring outside food without doctor’s permission
  • ✗ Do not sit or lean on patient beds
  • ✗ Do not touch medical equipment or adjust IV lines, monitors, etc.
  • ✗ Do not smoke anywhere on hospital premises
  • ✗ Do not consume alcohol before visiting
  • ✗ Do not bring weapons or prohibited items
  • ✗ Do not obstruct hallways or emergency exits
  • ✗ Do not move patients without staff assistance
  • ✗ Do not argue or raise voices in patient care areas

Special Visiting Situations

ICU/Critical Care Visits

ICU visiting is more restricted to ensure patient rest and allow for intensive care:
  • Only immediate family members (spouse, parents, adult children, siblings)
  • One visitor at a time for 30 minutes per session
  • Two visiting sessions per day
  • Doctor will brief family members daily at 1:00 PM and 6:00 PM
  • Extended visiting hours may be granted for critically ill patients - discuss with the ICU physician
During medical emergencies or procedures, visitors may be asked to leave temporarily. The medical team will update you as soon as possible.

Overnight Visitors/Attendants

Who Can Stay Overnight:
  • One parent with pediatric patients (mandatory)
  • One parent with maternity patients
  • One family member with elderly patients (over 65) or those needing assistance
  • One attendant with patients who have mobility or cognitive impairments
Overnight Attendant Requirements:
  • Register at the nursing station by 8:00 PM
  • Provide photo ID and contact information
  • Sleep only in designated attendant areas (recliner chair, not patient bed)
  • Follow all hospital policies and staff instructions
  • Attendant meals can be purchased at the hospital cafeteria
Overnight attendants must not interfere with patient care activities. Nursing staff may ask attendants to step out during procedures, doctor rounds, or medical emergencies.

End-of-Life Visiting

For patients in palliative or end-of-life care:
  • Extended visiting hours available (often 24-hour access)
  • More flexible visitor limits
  • Private spaces available for family gatherings
  • Spiritual care services available on request
  • Contact the nursing station or patient services to arrange special accommodations

Visiting During Special Circumstances

Infection Control Situations

When a patient has an infectious condition:
  • Visitors must use personal protective equipment (PPE) - gowns, gloves, masks
  • Staff will provide PPE and donning/doffing instructions
  • Visitor numbers may be further limited
  • Children may not be permitted
  • Follow all contact precautions strictly

COVID-19 or Pandemic Protocols

During pandemic situations:
  • Visiting may be suspended or severely restricted
  • Virtual visiting options available via video calls

  • Universal masking may be required
  • Temperature screening at all entry points

Flowers and Gifts

Permitted Items

  • Balloons (no mylar/metallic balloons near oxygen areas)
  • Stuffed animals and toys (new, in packaging)
  • Books and magazines
  • Personal care items
  • Electronics (phone, tablet, laptop)

Restricted Items

  • Fresh flowers in ICU, transplant, or immunocompromised units (infection risk)
  • Food items (unless approved by the medical team)
  • Strongly scented items (perfumes, candles)
  • Glass vases (use hospital-provided plastic alternatives)
All gifts must be inspected by nursing staff before being given to the patient. This ensures patient safety and medical appropriateness.

Virtual Visiting Options

For those unable to visit in person:
  • Video Calling: Patients with phones/tablets can use FaceTime, WhatsApp video, or Zoom
  • Nurse-Facilitated Calls: Nursing staff can arrange video calls for patients without devices (scheduled in advance)
  • Patient Portal: Family members can receive updates through our secure patient portal
  • Daily Doctor Updates: For ICU patients, family can join daily rounds via phone conference

Surgical Waiting Areas

Special waiting areas for families of surgical patients:
  • Location: 3rd Floor, Surgical Wing
  • Amenities: Paging system to receive updates, private consultation rooms
  • Updates: Surgeon will meet with family after procedure completion

Parking for Visitors

  • Visitor Parking: Multi-level parking structure adjacent to main building
  • Rates: ₹30 for first hour, ₹20 per additional hour, ₹200 daily maximum
  • Validation: Available at cafeteria with purchase
  • Valet Service: Available at main entrance (₹100)

Visitor Conduct & Security

Expected Behavior

All visitors must:
  • Respect patient privacy and confidentiality
  • Follow hospital policies and staff instructions
  • Maintain appropriate behavior and language
  • Dress modestly and appropriately
  • Respect cultural and religious diversity

Security Measures

  • Photo ID required for entry to patient floors
  • Visitor logs maintained
  • Security cameras in public areas
  • Security personnel available 24/7
  • Restricted areas clearly marked
Visitors who violate hospital policies, behave inappropriately, or endanger patient safety will be asked to leave immediately. Law enforcement may be contacted if necessary.

Restricted Visitor List

Patients have the right to restrict visitors:
  • Inform nursing staff of any individuals who should not be permitted to visit
  • Hospital will maintain a “do not allow” list for your protection
  • Legal protective orders will be honored
  • All restrictions are kept confidential
