Supported Profile

ALL of the following must be true for EZFile to handle your return:
Filing status: Single (not married, no domestic partner)
No children or dependents of any kind
Income: W-2 wages only (no 1099s, no self-employment, no investments)
Housing: Renter (no mortgage, no property owned)
Optional: Federal student loans with 1098-E
Optional: Tips, overtime, or new car purchase (Schedule 1-A)

Automatic Disqualifiers

If your situation includes ANY of the following, EZFile cannot process your return:
  • Spouse, partner, married, filing jointly
  • Children, kids, dependents, child care, day care
  • Head of Household (requires a qualifying dependent)
  • Filing as Qualifying Surviving Spouse
  • 1099-NEC, 1099-MISC (freelance, gig work, side hustle)
  • 1099-INT, 1099-DIV (bank interest, dividends — even small amounts)
  • 1099-B (stock sales, crypto, capital gains)
  • 1099-G (unemployment compensation)
  • 1099-R (retirement distributions, pensions)
  • 1099-SSA (Social Security benefits)
  • Self-employment, sole proprietor, LLC, business
  • Rental property income
  • Alimony received
  • Foreign income, FBAR, FATCA
  • Itemized deductions
  • Mortgage interest (Form 1098)
  • Property tax
  • Large charitable donations requiring itemization
  • Medical expenses exceeding 7.5% of AGI
  • Casualty/theft losses
  • Multiple states (worked in different states during year)
  • Part-year resident in any state
  • Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) likely
  • Prior year carryforwards (capital losses, NOLs)
  • Estimated tax payments made during the year
  • IRS installment agreement or tax debt

If EZFile detects a disqualifier, you’ll receive a message like this:

Your W-2 data stays on your local machine and has not been transmitted anywhere.
