Kafka’s Library feature helps you organize and access your favorite items and downloads. Save items you love, manage your downloads, and quickly resume your recent reading and listening.

Accessing Your Library

Your Library is available from the bottom navigation bar:

Open Library

Tap the Library icon in the bottom navigation to open your personal library.

Choose a tab

The Library has two tabs: “Favorites” and “Downloads”. Swipe or tap to switch between them.
Your Library content syncs across devices when you’re signed in, so your favorites are available everywhere.

Save items you want to keep track of or read later:

Adding Favorites

Find an item

Navigate to any item detail page from search results or the homepage.

Tap the favorite button

Look for the heart icon in the top bar or action buttons on the item detail page.

Confirm addition

The heart icon fills to indicate the item is now in your favorites.

Viewing Favorites

Access your saved items from the Favorites tab:
  • Grid view - See items in a compact grid with cover art
  • List view - View items in a detailed list with metadata
  • Switch layouts - Toggle between grid and list using the layout button at the top

Grid View

Displays 2 columns on phones, 4 columns on tablets. Perfect for browsing by cover art.

List View

Shows detailed information including title, creator, and description. Better for searching specific items.

Removing Favorites

Open the item

Tap any favorite item to open its detail page.

Tap the favorite button

Tap the filled heart icon to remove the item from your favorites.

Confirm removal

The heart icon becomes unfilled, and the item is removed from your favorites list.
Use favorites to create your personal collection of items you want to read, listen to, or reference later.

Downloads

Manage all your downloaded content in one place:

Viewing Downloads

The Downloads tab shows all items you’ve downloaded:
  • Download status - See which files are downloading, paused, or completed
  • File information - View file name, size, and format
  • Quick access - Tap any downloaded item to open it immediately

Download Status Indicators

Downloading

Shows progress percentage and a pause button. Files are being downloaded.

Completed

Green checkmark indicates file is downloaded and ready to read/listen offline.

Paused

Download is paused. Tap to resume downloading.

Failed

Download failed. Tap to retry.

Managing Downloaded Files

Control your downloads directly from the Downloads tab:
  • Open file - Tap a completed download to open it in the reader/player
  • Pause download - Tap the pause button on active downloads
  • Resume download - Tap paused downloads to continue
  • Retry failed - Tap failed downloads to try again

Download Location

Customize where files are saved on your device:

Find location button

At the top of the Downloads tab, you’ll see the current download location displayed.

Change location

Tap the location button to open your device’s folder picker.

Select folder

Choose a folder on your device or SD card where you want downloads saved.

Confirm selection

The new location is saved and future downloads will go there.
Changing download location doesn’t move existing files. Only new downloads will use the new location.

Storage Information

Kafka provides helpful storage information:
  • Total download size - See how much space your downloads use
  • Storage prompt - Get notified when storage is running low
  • Individual file sizes - Each download shows its file size
Monitor your download storage to ensure you have space for new content. Consider removing finished items you won’t revisit.

Recent Items

Quickly access items you’ve recently read or listened to:

Continue Reading Section

On the homepage, find the “Continue Reading” section:
  • Shows items you’ve recently accessed
  • Displays your progress (current page or playback position)
  • Tap to resume from where you left off
  • Swipe to remove items you’re done with

Open all recent items

Tap “See All” in the Continue Reading section on the homepage.

Browse your history

View a complete list of items you’ve recently accessed, ordered by recency.

Manage items

Remove items from recent history by swiping or using the remove button.

Automatic History

Kafka automatically tracks items you open. No manual action needed - just start reading or listening, and items appear in your recent list.

Organizing Tips

Make the most of your Library:

Favorite Liberally

Add items to favorites when you first discover them, even if you’re not ready to read them yet.

Download for Trips

Before traveling, download several items to your device so you have offline content available.

Clean Up Downloads

Periodically remove finished downloads to free up storage space for new content.

Use Recent Items

The Recent Items list helps you pick up where you left off across multiple books or audiobooks.

Syncing Across Devices

When signed in, your library syncs automatically:

What Syncs

  • Favorites - Your favorite items are available on all devices
  • Reading positions - Resume from the same position on any device
  • Recent items - Your reading history syncs across devices

What Doesn’t Sync

  • Downloaded files - Downloads are stored locally on each device
  • Download location - Each device has its own download folder setting

Sign in

Log in with the same account on multiple devices.

Automatic sync

Favorites and reading positions sync automatically when connected to the internet.

Access anywhere

Open Kafka on any device to see your favorites and continue from your last position.
Sign in required: You must be signed in to sync library data. Anonymous users have local-only library data.

Empty States

When you first start using Kafka:

No Favorites Yet

The Favorites tab shows:
  • Message: “No favorites items yet”
  • Prompts you to explore and add items

No Downloads Yet

The Downloads tab shows:
  • Message: “No downloads yet”
  • Instructions to download items for offline access

Sign-In Prompt

If not signed in, you’ll see:
  • “Log in to sync favorites” message
  • Tap to go to the login screen
  • Sign in to enable cloud sync
