Data Syncing

Understand how your data syncs:

What Syncs

When signed in, these items sync automatically:

Favorites

All items you’ve favorited appear on all signed-in devices.

Reading Progress

Current page/position for each item syncs across devices.

Recent Items

Your reading history stays consistent everywhere.

Preferences

Some app preferences sync (like reader settings).

What Doesn’t Sync

  • Downloaded files - Downloads are device-specific
  • Download location - Each device has its own setting
  • Recent searches - Search history is local only
  • Playback queue - Audio queues don’t sync

Sync Timing

  • Automatic - Syncing happens in the background
  • Immediate - Changes upload within seconds
  • On launch - Full sync when you open the app
  • Requires internet - Syncing needs an active connection
If syncing seems delayed, check your internet connection and try pulling down to refresh on the Library page.

Privacy and Security

Your data is protected:

Data Protection

  • Encrypted transmission - All data sent securely over HTTPS
  • Secure storage - Cloud data stored with industry-standard encryption
  • No data selling - Your information is never sold to third parties
  • Minimal collection - Only email and usage data collected

Privacy Controls

  • Delete account - Contact support to delete your account and all data
  • Export data - Request a copy of your data anytime
  • Revoke access - Remove Google sign-in access from Google account settings
Read the full privacy policy at kafka.app/privacy for complete details on data handling.

Troubleshooting Sign-In

Resolve common authentication issues:

Can’t Sign In

Wrong Password

  • Use “Forgot password” to reset
  • Check for typos
  • Try typing password in notes app first
  • Ensure CAPS LOCK is off

Google Sign-In Fails

  • Check Google Play Services is updated
  • Try selecting account again
  • Sign out of Google and back in
  • Verify internet connection

Account Not Found

  • Verify email address is correct
  • Check if you signed up with Google instead
  • Try alternate email addresses
  • Create new account if needed

Email Not Verified

  • Check email inbox and spam
  • Request new verification email
  • Wait a few minutes and try again
  • Ensure email address is correct

Syncing Issues

If your data isn’t syncing:
  1. Verify sign-in - Ensure you’re signed into the same account on all devices
  2. Check internet - Syncing requires active internet connection
  3. Force sync - Pull to refresh on Library page
  4. Sign out and in - Try signing out and back in to force sync
  5. Wait a moment - Give sync a few seconds to complete
Most sign-in issues are resolved by ensuring you’re using the correct email address and password, and that you have a stable internet connection.

Best Practices

Get the most from Kafka authentication:
  • Sign in early - Create an account when you first start using Kafka to enable syncing from the beginning
  • Use strong passwords - If using email signup, choose a secure, unique password
  • Keep email current - Use an email address you regularly check for recovery
  • Sign in on all devices - Use the same account on all your devices to keep everything in sync
  • Stay signed in - No need to sign out unless sharing your device

Recommended: Google Sign-In

For most users, Google Sign-In provides the best experience: it’s quick, secure, and doesn’t require remembering another password.
