Using Favorites as Lists

You can use favorites for different purposes:

  • Research Collection: Save reference materials and research sources
  • Recommendations: Keep track of recommendations from friends
  • Archive: Save completed items you want to revisit

Managing Large Favorite Collections

  • Use search to find specific favorited items
  • Switch to grid view for faster visual browsing
  • Periodically review and unfavorite items you no longer need
  • Remember that downloads are separate - unfavoriting doesn’t delete files

Favorites in Item Details

On any item’s details page, the favorite status is shown by:
  • Outlined heart: Item is not favorited
  • Filled heart with primary color: Item is favorited
  • Animation: Heart animates when toggled
The heart icon is always visible in the action row, making it easy to favorite or unfavorite while browsing.

Finding Favorited Items

From Library

Favorites and “Continue Reading” are separate features. An item can be favorited without being started, or started without being favorited.

Favorites Best Practices

  • Favorite liberally: There’s no limit to the number of favorites
  • Use as a discovery tool: Favorite items while browsing to review later
  • Sync early: Sign in before accumulating many favorites to avoid data loss
  • Combine with downloads: Favorite and download items for offline access
  • Regular curation: Periodically review your favorites and remove completed items

Empty Favorites State

If you haven’t added any favorites yet:
  • The Library > Favorites tab shows “No favorites items” message
  • Browse the homepage or search to find items to favorite
  • Tap the heart icon on any item to add your first favorite
Start by favoriting a few items you’re interested in - this helps you build a personal library within Kafka.

Troubleshooting Favorites

Favorites Not Syncing

  • Ensure you’re signed in with the same account on all devices
  • Check your internet connection
  • Sign out and sign back in to force a sync
  • Contact support if issues persist

Lost Favorites After Reinstall

  • Favorites are only preserved if you were signed in
  • Sign in with the same account to restore synced favorites
  • Local-only favorites (without sign-in) cannot be recovered

Can’t Add to Favorites

  • Ensure the item details page has loaded completely
  • Check that you have internet connectivity
  • Try signing in anonymously if you haven’t yet
  • Restart the app if the heart icon is unresponsive
Kafka automatically creates an anonymous account when you first use features like favorites, allowing progress and favorites to be saved even without explicit sign-in.
