Installation

AppFlowy is available on Desktop (macOS, Windows, Linux), iOS, and Android. Choose your platform below to get started.

System Requirements

Before installing AppFlowy, ensure your system meets these minimum requirements:

Desktop

macOS

macOS 10.15 (Catalina) or later
Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3) or Intel processor
4GB RAM minimum, 8GB recommended

Windows

Windows 10 (64-bit) or later
4GB RAM minimum, 8GB recommended
x86_64 processor

Linux

Ubuntu 20.04 or later (or equivalent)
4GB RAM minimum, 8GB recommended
x86_64 or ARM64 processor

Download AppFlowy

Download the latest macOS installer from GitHub Releases.AppFlowy automatically detects your processor type (Apple Silicon or Intel).

Install the application

Open the downloaded .dmg file
Drag AppFlowy to your Applications folder
Launch AppFlowy from Applications

Grant permissions (first launch)

On first launch, macOS may show a security warning:

Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security
Click Open Anyway next to the AppFlowy warning
Confirm by clicking Open

AppFlowy will automatically check for updates. You can disable this in Settings > General > Auto-update.

Download AppFlowy

Download the Windows installer from GitHub Releases.Look for the file named AppFlowy-*-windows-x86_64.exe.

Run the installer

Double-click the downloaded .exe file
If Windows SmartScreen appears, click More info then Run anyway
Follow the installation wizard
Choose your installation directory (default: C:\Program Files\AppFlowy)

Launch AppFlowy

AppFlowy will launch automatically after installation. You can also launch it from:

Start menu
Desktop shortcut (if created during installation)

AppFlowy is available through multiple installation methods on Linux:

# Download the latest release
curl -L https://github.com/AppFlowy-IO/AppFlowy/releases/latest/download/AppFlowy-*-linux-x86_64.tar.gz -o AppFlowy.tar.gz

# Extract to /opt
sudo tar -xzf AppFlowy.tar.gz -C /opt

# Run AppFlowy
cd /opt/AppFlowy
./AppFlowy

The install script supports multiple architectures: x86_64, ARM64, ARMv6, and ARMv7.

Creating a Desktop Entry

For manual installations (tar.gz or install script), create a desktop entry:

cat > ~/.local/share/applications/appflowy.desktop <<EOF
[Desktop Entry]
Name=AppFlowy
Exec=/opt/AppFlowy/AppFlowy
Icon=/opt/AppFlowy/assets/icons/icon.png
Type=Application
Categories=Office;Productivity;

Verification

After installation, verify AppFlowy is working correctly:

Launch AppFlowy
You should see the welcome screen
The app should open without errors

Troubleshooting

macOS: 'AppFlowy cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified'

This is a security feature in macOS. To resolve:

Open System Settings > Privacy & Security
Scroll down to find the AppFlowy warning
Click Open Anyway
Confirm by clicking Open in the dialog

Windows: 'Windows protected your PC' SmartScreen warning

This is expected for new versions:

Click More info on the SmartScreen dialog
Click Run anyway

AppFlowy is open source and safe to install.

Linux: Missing dependencies error

Install required dependencies:

Ubuntu/Debian

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install libgtk-3-0 libwebkit2gtk-4.0-37

Fedora

sudo dnf install gtk3 webkit2gtk3

App won't launch or crashes on startup

Try these steps:

Restart your device
Clear app cache (mobile only)
Reinstall AppFlowy
Check if you meet the system requirements
