Date mode provides traditional calendar-based project planning, ideal for longer-term projects that span days, weeks, or months. This mode is perfect for managing projects with standard work schedules and deadlines.

Setting Up Date Mode

1

Access Timeline Configuration

Open your Gantt chart and locate the timeline mode selector at the top of the interface.
2

Select Date Mode

Click on the date mode option to switch your timeline to calendar-based scheduling.
3

Configure Your Date Range

Set your project start and end dates to define the overall timeline scope.

Configuring Date Ranges

Date mode allows you to define your project timeline using standard calendar dates:
  • Start Date: Set the beginning of your project timeline
  • End Date: Define when your project should conclude
  • View Granularity: Choose between daily, weekly, or monthly views

Smart Date Exclusion

Gantt Maker includes intelligent date configuration options:
  • Weekend Exclusion: Automatically omit Saturdays and Sundays from your timeline
  • Custom Date Exclusion: Specify holidays or non-working days that should be skipped
  • Real Work Days: The timeline automatically adjusts to show only actual working days
This ensures your project timeline reflects realistic working schedules.

Planning by Days, Weeks, and Months

Date mode adapts to different project scales:

Daily Planning

Best for projects spanning a few weeks where you need day-by-day visibility:
  • Track tasks with daily precision
  • See exactly which team member works on what each day
  • Identify scheduling conflicts quickly

Weekly Planning

Ideal for medium-term projects (1-3 months):
  • Organize sprints and iterations
  • Plan work in week-long chunks
  • Maintain overview without excessive detail

Monthly Planning

Perfect for long-term strategic planning:
  • View project milestones across quarters
  • Plan resource allocation at a high level
  • Track major deliverables and deadlines

Best Use Cases for Date Mode

Date mode excels in these scenarios:

Academic Projects

Students managing thesis work or semester-long projects can visualize deadlines and milestones across months.

Marketing Campaigns

Agencies coordinating multiple clients can plan campaign launches, content schedules, and deliverable dates across weeks and months.

Traditional Project Management

Teams following waterfall or milestone-based methodologies benefit from clear calendar-based phases.

Multi-Client Management

Consultants and freelancers can organize work across different clients with distinct deadlines and timelines.

Visual Layout in Date Mode

Date mode presents your project with a calendar-based header:
  • Timeline Header: Shows days, weeks, or months depending on your zoom level
  • Task Bars: Span across calendar dates, showing duration visually
  • Team Member Colors: Each team member is assigned a unique color for easy identification
  • Progress Indicators: Visual markers show task status (Not Started, In Progress, Completed)
The interface uses a horizontal timeline where:
  • The left side lists team members and tasks
  • The right side displays the Gantt chart bars across calendar dates
  • Task bars can be dragged to adjust dates visually
  • Colors immediately identify who is assigned to each task
Date mode works best when your project follows standard business hours and calendar-based scheduling. For more precise, hour-by-hour planning, consider using Hour Mode.
