Track your project’s progress in real-time using Gantt Maker’s intuitive status workflow and visual progress indicators.

Task Status Workflow

Every task follows a clear three-stage progression:
Pending → WIP (Work in Progress) → Completed

Status Stages Explained

  • Pending: Task is planned but work has not yet started
  • WIP (Work in Progress): Task is actively being worked on
  • Completed: Task is finished and delivered

Updating Task Status

Change task status with a single click:
1

Locate the Task

Find the task you want to update on your Gantt chart.
2

Click to Update

Click directly on the task to cycle through status stages:
  • First click: Changes Pending → WIP
  • Second click: Changes WIP → Completed
3

Verify Status Change

The task’s visual indicator updates immediately to reflect its new status.

Visual Progress Indicators

Gantt Maker provides multiple visual cues for tracking progress:

Task-Level Indicators

  • Status badges: Each task displays its current status
  • Color variations: Different visual treatments for Pending, WIP, and Completed tasks
  • Progress markers: Clear visual differentiation between status stages

Timeline Visualization

See progress across your entire project:
  • Completed tasks: Visually distinguished to show finished work
  • Active work: WIP tasks highlighted to show current focus areas
  • Upcoming work: Pending tasks displayed for future planning

Viewing Overall Project Progress

Get a high-level view of your project’s health:
1

Scan the Chart

Look across your Gantt chart to see the distribution of task statuses.
2

Assess Completion Rate

Quickly gauge what percentage of tasks are completed vs. in progress vs. pending based on visual indicators.
3

Review Timeline

Check if completed tasks align with planned schedules and if WIP tasks are on track.

Identifying Bottlenecks

Use progress tracking to spot potential issues:

Signs of Bottlenecks

  • Clustering of WIP tasks: Multiple tasks stuck in Work in Progress status may indicate obstacles
  • Delayed completions: Tasks remaining in WIP beyond their planned duration
  • Pending backlogs: Large numbers of pending tasks while team capacity is available
  • Uneven distribution: Some team members with many completed tasks while others show little progress

Addressing Bottlenecks

1

Identify the Issue

Look for patterns in the visual indicators that suggest blocked or delayed work.
2

Analyze Causes

Determine if bottlenecks are due to resource constraints, dependencies, or other factors.
3

Reassign or Adjust

Use the drag-and-drop reassignment feature to rebalance workload or adjust task durations and timelines.
4

Monitor Changes

Track whether your adjustments resolve the bottleneck by watching status updates.

Real-Time Progress Updates

All progress changes are reflected immediately:
  • Instant visualization: Status updates appear in real-time across the interface
  • Auto-save: Progress changes are automatically saved to local storage
  • No delay: Click and see results immediately without page refreshes
Progress data is stored locally in your browser, ensuring your project information remains private and accessible offline.

Best Practices

  • Regular updates: Encourage team members to update task status frequently
  • Honest reporting: Ensure status reflects actual progress, not wishful thinking
  • Daily reviews: Check progress indicators daily to catch issues early
  • Team visibility: Use the visual progress to facilitate stand-ups and team discussions
  • Pattern recognition: Learn to spot your team’s typical bottleneck patterns and address them proactively
  • Celebrate milestones: Use completed task visualization to recognize team achievements
