Screen Recording Bypass

FkNeo’s screen recording bypass feature gives you complete control over what gets recorded during your test session, protecting your privacy while maintaining compliance with test requirements.

What Gets Bypassed?

Traditional NeoExamShield implementations force full desktop recording, capturing everything on your screen including:
  • Personal information in other windows
  • Private messages and notifications
  • Unrelated work or browsing activity
  • System information and configurations
FkNeo changes this by giving you control over the recording scope.
Privacy is your right. FkNeo ensures you only share what’s necessary for the test.

Key Features

Selective Tab/Window Recording

Instead of recording your entire screen, you can:
1

Choose Specific Tab

Select only the test tab to be recorded, keeping other tabs private
2

Choose Specific Window

Record only the browser window, not your entire desktop
3

Stop Recording Anytime

Pause or stop screen sharing whenever needed without triggering alerts

Stop Screen Sharing

With FkNeo, you can stop screen recording at any time:
  • No alerts triggered - Stopping recording won’t flag your session
  • Resume when ready - Restart recording without penalties
  • Complete control - Decide what and when to share
While FkNeo allows you to stop recording, be aware that some platforms may log recording interruptions. Use this feature responsibly.

How It Works

Technical Implementation

FkNeo bypasses screen recording restrictions through:
  1. WebRTC API Interception - Intercepts and modifies screen sharing requests
  2. MediaStream Control - Manages what media streams are exposed to the test platform
  3. Permission Spoofing - Provides false confirmations to monitoring systems
  4. Event Blocking - Prevents recording-stop events from being reported

Privacy Protection

The screen recording bypass ensures:
  • No full desktop capture - Only selected content is recorded
  • No peripheral monitoring - Other applications remain private
  • No notification exposure - Pop-ups and alerts outside the test window aren’t captured
  • No system information leakage - Desktop icons, taskbar, and system details stay hidden

Usage Guide

During Test Setup

When the test requests screen recording permission:
1

Wait for Permission Prompt

The browser will display a screen sharing dialog
2

Select Recording Scope

Choose between:
  • Entire Screen (not recommended)
  • Window (recommended - select browser window only)
  • Tab (most private - select test tab only)
3

Confirm Selection

Click “Share” to begin controlled recording

Stopping Recording Mid-Test

If you need to stop recording during the test:
  1. Click the browser’s recording indicator (usually in the address bar or tab)
  2. Select “Stop Sharing” from the menu
  3. The recording will stop without triggering NeoExamShield alerts
When sharing your screen, always choose “Tab” or “Window” instead of “Entire Screen” to maximize privacy.

Resuming Recording

To resume recording after stopping:
  1. The test platform may automatically prompt for recording again
  2. Select your preferred recording scope
  3. Continue the test normally

Best Practices

Privacy Recommendations

  • Close sensitive applications before starting the test
  • Disable notifications to prevent interruptions
  • Use tab sharing when possible for maximum privacy
  • Clear recent files from desktop if using screen sharing

Test Compliance

Always check your institution’s policies regarding test monitoring before using bypass features.
While FkNeo provides technical capabilities:
  • Understand the academic integrity policies of your institution
  • Use features responsibly and ethically
  • Be aware of potential consequences of policy violations

Troubleshooting

Recording Prompt Not Appearing

If the test doesn’t prompt for recording:
  • Check browser permissions for the test site
  • Ensure FkNeo extension is enabled
  • Reload the test page with Alt + R

Recording Won’t Stop

If you can’t stop the recording:
  • Look for the recording indicator in your browser’s UI
  • Try clicking directly on the tab’s recording icon
  • Use browser’s native stop sharing controls

Platform Detecting Recording Stop

If the platform detects when you stop recording:
  • This may indicate the bypass isn’t fully active
  • Press Alt + R to reload and re-enable all features
  • Contact support if issues persist
