Structural design consultation

Every packaging project begins with a structural dieline — the flat cutting and creasing pattern that defines how the box folds and locks together. If you do not have a dieline for your packaging, our pre-press team can create one based on your product dimensions and packaging type. This service is available as part of the project scope.

File requirements for packaging

Packaging files have specific requirements that differ from flat print:
Never submit artwork on a flat rectangle for a box. Your artwork file must be positioned on the confirmed structural dieline, with each panel in the correct location.
  • Dieline: Provide the confirmed structural dieline on a separate, clearly labeled layer (or as a separate AI/EPS file). Dieline lines must be in a unique spot color (e.g., “CutContour”).
  • Artwork layers: Artwork and dieline must be on separate, named layers
  • Color mode: CMYK for process colors; add Pantone spot colors for brand-critical elements (e.g., brand blue, corporate red)
  • Bleed: 3mm beyond all cut lines, including internal panels that fold inward
  • Safety zone: Keep all text and logos at least 3–5mm inside every cut and crease line
  • Resolution: 300 ppi at final size for all raster images
  • Fonts: Convert to outlines
  • Format: PDF with all layers and spot colors intact, or submit native AI/INDD with linked assets

Production process

  1. Structural dieline confirmation — dimensions and pack style agreed
  2. Artwork pre-press check — color, bleed, resolution, font review
  3. Digital proof — screen PDF proof, or physical proof for color-critical projects
  4. Approval sign-off — written approval required before production begins
  5. Printing and lamination — digital press + surface finish
  6. Die-cutting and gluing — Kongsberg cutting table, hand or machine gluing
  7. Packing and delivery
