Musika’s sleep timer allows you to enjoy music while falling asleep without worrying about it playing all night. Set a timer and let the music gently fade out, helping you drift off peacefully.

Overview

The sleep timer automatically stops playback after a specified duration, perfect for:
  • Bedtime Listening: Fall asleep to music without draining battery
  • Meditation Sessions: Set timed sessions for meditation or relaxation
  • Focus Work: Time-box listening sessions during work or study
  • Power Naps: Wake up to silence after a short rest
  • Podcasts: Stop playback after current episode or chapter
Unlike simple timers, Musika’s sleep timer includes fade-out functionality, gradually reducing volume for a smooth transition to silence.

Setting a Sleep Timer

You can modify or cancel the sleep timer at any time before it expires. Access the timer again from the Now Playing menu.

  1. Select “Custom” from duration options
  2. Enter exact number of minutes
  3. Confirm to start timer
  4. Timer begins countdown immediately
Custom timer duration range: 1-999 minutes (up to 16.5 hours). Perfect for all-day background music scenarios.

Fade-Out Feature

Gradual Volume Reduction

Instead of abruptly stopping, the sleep timer includes a gentle fade-out:
  • Smooth Transition: Volume gradually decreases over final minutes
  • Peaceful Stop: Music fades to silence naturally
  • Customizable Duration: Configure fade-out length in settings
  • Natural Feel: Mimics the way you naturally drift to sleep
When enabled, the sleep timer begins reducing volume during the final minutes:
  • Default: 2-minute fade-out starting before timer expires
  • Configurable: Adjust fade duration from 30 seconds to 5 minutes
  • Smooth Curve: Volume reduces on a logarithmic curve for natural feel
  • Gentle Stop: Playback stops only after reaching zero volume
Configure fade-out behavior:
  1. Go to Settings > Playback > Sleep Timer
  2. Toggle “Fade Out” option
  3. Adjust “Fade Duration” slider
  4. Changes apply to all future timers

Smart Timer Features

End of Track Option

Enable “Finish Current Track” to let the current song complete before stopping, even if the timer expires during playback.
How It Works:
  • Timer expires during a song
  • Instead of stopping mid-song, playback continues
  • Playback stops (with fade-out) after track ends
  • Perfect for avoiding jarring interruptions

End of Queue Option

Stop after all queued tracks complete:
  • Timer acts as maximum duration
  • Playback continues until queue ends or timer expires
  • Useful for playlist-based sleep music
  • Ensures you hear complete content
Combine “End of Track” with a short timer to ensure the current song finishes without playing much more.

Active Timer Display

When a timer is active, you’ll see:
  • Countdown Display: Remaining time shown on Now Playing screen
  • Visual Indicator: Timer icon in notification
  • Time Remaining: Updated every minute
  • Quick Cancel: Tap timer display to cancel or modify

Cancel Timer

Stop the timer before it expires:
  • Tap timer countdown on Now Playing screen
  • Select “Cancel Timer” from menu
  • Or set timer duration to 0

Optimal Settings for Sleep

Create a dedicated “Sleep” playlist with calming music that’s longer than your timer duration. This ensures varied music each night within your timer window.

Troubleshooting

Timer Doesn’t Stop Playback:
  • Verify timer is actually set (check notification)
  • Ensure app isn’t being killed by battery optimization
  • Check timer didn’t get canceled accidentally
  • Update to latest version
  • Restart app and try again
Timer Stops Immediately:
  • Check if duration was set to very short time
  • Verify system time is correct
  • Clear app cache
  • Reinstall if issue persists
No Fade-Out Occurring:
  • Verify fade-out is enabled in settings
