Overview

Musika offers extensive customization options to personalize your music experience. From themes and visual settings to playback preferences and advanced configurations, you can tailor the app to your exact needs.

Theme Settings

Dark Theme

Musika features a modern dark theme designed for comfortable viewing:

Open Settings

Tap the menu icon and navigate to Settings.

Select Appearance

Go to Appearance > Theme.

Choose Theme Mode

Select your preferred theme:
  • Dark: Eye-friendly dark mode
  • Light: Bright, clean interface
  • System Default: Follow your device’s system theme
Musika uses Material Design 3 principles for a modern, cohesive user experience across all themes.

Color Customization

While Musika’s current design focuses on the dark theme, the Material Design 3 foundation supports:
  • Dynamic color schemes based on album artwork
  • Consistent iconography throughout the app
  • Typography using the custom Poppins font family

Display Settings

Now Playing Screen

Customize how the Now Playing screen looks and behaves:
  1. Go to Settings > Appearance > Now Playing
  2. Configure options:
    • Show Album Artwork: Display full-screen album artwork
    • Blur Background: Apply blur effect to artwork background
    • Show Lyrics Button: Toggle visibility of lyrics button
    • Show Queue Button: Toggle visibility of queue button

Typography

Musika uses the Poppins font family for a clean, modern look:
  • Consistent typography across all screens
  • Optimized text sizes for readability
  • Clear visual hierarchy

Screen Orientation

Configure how the app handles screen rotation:
  1. Go to Settings > Display
  2. Choose orientation preference:
    • Portrait: Lock to portrait mode
    • Landscape: Lock to landscape mode
    • Auto-rotate: Follow device orientation settings
Landscape mode is especially useful on tablets for a more immersive Now Playing experience.

Audio Settings

Equalizer

Fine-tune audio output with the built-in equalizer:

Audio Effects

Enhance your listening experience with additional audio effects:
  • Bass Boost: Enhance low-frequency response
  • Virtualizer: Create a surround sound effect
  • Loudness Enhancer: Increase overall volume and dynamics
Extreme audio effect settings may cause distortion. Start with subtle adjustments and increase gradually.

Crossfade

Enable smooth transitions between tracks:
  1. Go to Settings > Audio > Crossfade
  2. Enable crossfade
  3. Adjust crossfade duration (1-12 seconds)
Crossfade is currently in beta and may behave differently across devices.

Gapless Playback

Enable seamless playback for albums and mixes:
  1. Go to Settings > Audio
  2. Toggle “Gapless Playback” on
Gapless playback is perfect for concept albums, live recordings, and DJ mixes.

Audio Quality

Set streaming quality based on your network:

Open Audio Quality Settings

Go to Settings > Audio > Streaming Quality.

WiFi Quality

Set quality when connected to WiFi:
  • Low (64 kbps)
  • Normal (128 kbps)
  • High (256 kbps)
  • Best (320 kbps)

Mobile Data Quality

Set quality when on cellular data to manage data usage.

Data Saver Mode

Reduce data usage while streaming:
  1. Go to Settings > Audio
  2. Enable “Data Saver Mode”
  3. Streaming quality will automatically adjust to conserve data

Playback Speed

Configure default playback speed settings:
  1. Go to Settings > Playback
  2. Set default playback speed (0.5x - 2.0x)
  3. Enable “Remember Playback Speed” to maintain speed across sessions

Media Notifications

Customize playback notifications:

Widget customization options may vary depending on your Android version and launcher.

Account Settings

Multiple Accounts

Musika supports multiple YouTube Music accounts:

Open Account Settings

Go to Settings > Accounts.

Add Account

Tap “Add Account” and sign in with your YouTube credentials.

Switch Accounts

Tap your profile icon to quickly switch between accounts.

Guest Mode

Use Musika without signing in:
  1. Go to Settings > Accounts
  2. Select “Use as Guest”
  3. Browse and stream music without account sync
Guest mode provides limited functionality. Playlists, history, and preferences won’t be saved.

Storage Settings

Cache Management

Control how Musika uses cache:

View Cache Usage

Go to Settings > Storage to see current cache size.

Set Cache Limit

Configure maximum cache size (100 MB - 5 GB).

Clear Cache

Tap “Clear Cache” to free up space immediately.

Download Location

Choose where downloads are stored:
  1. Go to Settings > Storage > Download Location
  2. Select:
    • Internal Storage
    • SD Card (if available)
    • Custom folder

Accessibility Settings

Visual Accessibility

Musika includes several accessibility features:

AI Translation Settings

Configure AI-powered lyrics translation:

Get API Key

Sign up and obtain an API key from OpenRouter.

Open AI Settings

Go to Settings > AI Settings.

Ensure “Provider” is set to “OpenRouter”.

Enter API Key

Paste your OpenRouter API key.

Using Custom Provider

For OpenAI, Anthropic, or local LLMs:

If using Custom, enter your provider’s base URL.

AI translation allows you to translate lyrics to your preferred language in real-time.

Advanced Settings

Android Auto

Configure Musika for Android Auto:
  1. Go to Settings > Android Auto
  2. Enable Android Auto integration
  3. Configure:
    • Queue behavior
    • Voice command support
    • Display preferences

Network Settings

Optimize network behavior:
  • Prefer WiFi: Automatically pause streaming when WiFi disconnects
  • Connection Timeout: Adjust timeout for slow connections
  • Retry Failed Streams: Automatically retry failed streams

Performance Settings

Optimize app performance:
  1. Go to Settings > Advanced > Performance
  2. Configure:
    • Fast Startup: Preload content on app launch
    • Smooth Scrolling: Enable hardware acceleration
    • Memory Management: Adjust memory usage limits
    • Battery Optimization: Balance performance and battery life

Resetting Settings

Reset Individual Settings

Reset specific setting categories:
  1. Go to the relevant settings section
  2. Tap “Reset to Default”
  3. Confirm reset

Reset All Settings

Resetting all settings will return Musika to default configuration. Your library, playlists, and downloads will not be affected.

Go to Settings > Advanced.

Tap “Reset All Settings”.

Confirm that you want to reset all settings to defaults.

Restart App

Restart Musika for changes to take full effect.

Tips for Optimal Experience

Performance

  • Clear cache regularly if experiencing slow performance
  • Limit cache size on devices with limited storage
  • Enable hardware acceleration for smoother scrolling

Battery Life

  • Use dark theme to save battery on OLED screens
  • Disable crossfade if not needed
  • Lower streaming quality on mobile data
  • Enable battery optimization in settings

Audio Quality

  • Use “Best” quality on WiFi for optimal sound
  • Enable gapless playback for albums
  • Adjust equalizer based on your headphones/speakers
  • Use crossfade for party playlists
