Overview

Playlists are the perfect way to organize your music in Musika. You can create custom playlists, sync with YouTube Music playlists, and organize your favorite tracks exactly how you want.

Creating Playlists

Create a Local Playlist

Build custom playlists stored on your device:

Open Playlist Menu

Tap the menu icon and navigate to Library > Playlists.

Create New Playlist

Tap the ”+” or “Create Playlist” button.

Enter Details

Provide a name for your playlist. Optionally add a description.

Add Artwork (Optional)

Choose a custom cover image for your playlist or let Musika generate one automatically.

Save

Tap “Create” to save your new playlist.

Create from Queue

Quickly create a playlist from your current playback queue:
  1. Open the Now Playing screen
  2. Tap the queue icon to view your current queue
  3. Tap the three-dot menu
  4. Select “Save Queue as Playlist”
  5. Name your playlist and save
This is perfect for preserving a great listening session or creating a playlist from a radio station you discovered.

Adding Songs to Playlists

Add Individual Songs

Find the Song

Browse or search for the song you want to add.

Open Song Menu

Tap the three-dot menu icon next to the song.

Select Add to Playlist

Choose “Add to Playlist” from the menu.

Choose Playlist

Select the playlist you want to add the song to, or create a new playlist.

Add from Now Playing

Add the currently playing song:
  1. Open the Now Playing screen
  2. Tap the three-dot menu
  3. Select “Add to Playlist”
  4. Choose your destination playlist

Add Multiple Songs

Bulk add songs to playlists:
  1. Navigate to an album, artist view, or search results
  2. Tap “Select” or long-press a song to enter selection mode
  3. Select multiple songs
  4. Tap “Add to Playlist” from the action bar
  5. Choose your destination playlist

Editing Playlists

Rename a Playlist

Open Playlist

Navigate to the playlist you want to rename.

Open Playlist Menu

Tap the three-dot menu at the top of the playlist.

Select Edit

Choose “Edit Playlist Details”.

Update Name

Enter the new name and tap “Save”.

Change Playlist Artwork

  1. Open the playlist
  2. Tap the three-dot menu
  3. Select “Edit Playlist Details”
  4. Tap the current artwork
  5. Choose a new image from your gallery or take a photo
  6. Crop and adjust as needed
  7. Save your changes

Add Description

Add context to your playlists:
  1. Open the playlist
  2. Tap the three-dot menu > “Edit Playlist Details”
  3. Enter a description in the description field
  4. Save your changes
Descriptions help you remember the theme or purpose of a playlist, especially useful for mood-based or occasion-specific collections.

Organizing Playlist Content

Reorder Songs

Arrange songs in your preferred order:

Open Playlist

Navigate to the playlist you want to reorder.

Enable Edit Mode

Tap the edit icon or three-dot menu > “Reorder Songs”.

Drag to Reorder

Press and hold the drag handle next to a song, then move it to your desired position.

Save Changes

Tap “Done” to save the new order.

Remove Songs from Playlist

Remove individual songs:
  1. Open the playlist
  2. Tap the three-dot menu next to the song you want to remove
  3. Select “Remove from Playlist”

Remove Multiple Songs

  1. Open the playlist
  2. Tap “Select” to enter selection mode
  3. Select the songs you want to remove
  4. Tap the delete icon
  5. Confirm removal

Sort Playlist

Automatically sort songs by different criteria:
  1. Open the playlist
  2. Tap the sort icon or three-dot menu > “Sort”
  3. Choose sorting criteria:
    • Title (A-Z or Z-A)
    • Artist (A-Z or Z-A)
    • Date Added (Newest or Oldest first)
    • Duration (Shortest or Longest first)
    • Custom (manual order)

YouTube Music Playlists

Musika syncs with your YouTube Music account to access your YouTube playlists.

Sync YouTube Music Playlists

Sign In

Make sure you’re signed in to your YouTube Music account in Musika.

Access Library

Navigate to Library > Playlists.

Refresh

Pull down to refresh and sync your YouTube Music playlists.

View Playlists

Your YouTube Music playlists will appear alongside local playlists.

Create YouTube Music Playlist

Create playlists directly on YouTube Music:
  1. Navigate to Library > Playlists
  2. Tap ”+” > “Create YouTube Music Playlist”
  3. Name your playlist
  4. The playlist will be created on your YouTube Music account and synced
YouTube Music playlists created in Musika will be visible in the official YouTube Music app and website.

Edit YouTube Music Playlists

Modify your YouTube Music playlists:
  • Add songs: Same process as local playlists
  • Remove songs: Tap three-dot menu > “Remove from Playlist”
  • Reorder: Use the drag handle in edit mode
  • Changes sync automatically with YouTube Music

Access Liked Songs

Your YouTube Music liked songs are available:
  1. Go to Library
  2. Find the “Liked Songs” playlist
  3. This playlist automatically syncs with your YouTube Music likes

Sharing Playlists

Share Local Playlists

Open Playlist

Navigate to the playlist you want to share.

Tap Share

Tap the share icon or three-dot menu > “Share”.

Choose Export Format

Select how to share:
  • Export as file (M3U, JSON)
  • Share link (if synced with YouTube Music)
  • Share to social media

Send

Choose your sharing method and send to the recipient.

Import Playlists

Import playlists from other sources:

Access Import

Go to Library > Playlists > Menu > “Import Playlist”.

Choose Source

Select the import method:
  • Import from file (M3U, JSON)
  • Import from YouTube Music link
  • Import from clipboard

Select File

Browse and select the playlist file to import.

Confirm Import

Review the playlist contents and tap “Import”.

Smart Playlists

Create dynamic playlists that update automatically based on criteria:
  1. Go to Library > Playlists
  2. Tap ”+” > “Create Smart Playlist”
  3. Set criteria:
    • Genre
    • Artist
    • Recently played
    • Most played
    • Date added
  4. Save the smart playlist
Smart playlists are perfect for creating “Recently Added”, “Most Played This Month”, or genre-specific collections that update automatically.

Collaborative Playlists

Create playlists that others can contribute to:

Create or Open Playlist

Create a new playlist or open an existing one.

Enable Collaboration

Tap three-dot menu > “Collaborative Playlist” > Enable.

Share Invite Link

Share the generated link with people you want to collaborate with.

Manage Collaborators

View and manage collaborators from the playlist settings.

Deleting Playlists

Delete Local Playlist

Deleting a playlist is permanent and cannot be undone. The songs themselves will remain in your library.

Open Playlist

Navigate to the playlist you want to delete.

Open Menu

Tap the three-dot menu at the top of the playlist.

Select Delete

Choose “Delete Playlist”.

Confirm

Confirm that you want to permanently delete the playlist.

Delete YouTube Music Playlist

  1. Open the YouTube Music playlist
  2. Tap three-dot menu > “Delete Playlist”
  3. Confirm deletion
Deleting a YouTube Music playlist in Musika will also delete it from your YouTube Music account.

Organization Strategies

  • By Mood: Create playlists for different moods (Energetic, Relaxing, Focus)
  • By Activity: Workout, Commute, Study, Party
  • By Time Period: Morning Routine, Evening Wind-Down
  • By Genre: Keep genres separate for easy browsing
  • By Occasion: Road Trips, Dinner Party, Rainy Days

Maintaining Playlists

  1. Regular Reviews: Periodically review and remove songs you skip
  2. Keep Fresh: Add new discoveries to keep playlists interesting
  3. Optimal Length: 20-50 songs is ideal for most playlists
  4. Backup Important Playlists: Export and save copies of playlists you’ve spent time curating

Performance Tips

  • Very large playlists (1000+ songs) may load slower
  • Consider splitting large playlists into themed parts
  • Download frequently played playlists for better performance
  • Use smart playlists to automatically manage large collections
