Tips for Effective Boards

Tell a Story: Arrange reports in a logical flow that builds to insights. Use text cards to guide viewers through the narrative.
Keep It Focused: Limit boards to 8-12 key metrics. Too many reports overwhelm viewers and dilute important signals.
Use Consistent Time Ranges: Apply board-wide date ranges to ensure all metrics show the same period for easy comparison.
Add Context: Text cards explaining metrics, thresholds, and goals help viewers understand what they’re looking at.
Name Descriptively: Use clear board names like “Weekly Product KPIs” instead of “Dashboard 1” so they’re easy to find.
Update Regularly: Review and update boards monthly to remove stale metrics and add new areas of focus.
Share Widely: Pin critical boards organization-wide and use subscriptions to push insights to stakeholders.

Common Questions

Q: Can I add the same report to multiple boards? A: Yes! Each board gets a linked copy that stays in sync with the original. Q: Do board filters change my saved reports? A: No. Board filters only affect how reports display on that board. The original saved reports are unchanged. Q: How do I know if a board subscription is working? A: Check the subscription list and confirm recipients are receiving emails/Slack messages at scheduled times. Q: Can external people access my board? A: External people can receive board subscriptions via email but cannot access the board directly in Mixpanel. Q: What happens if I delete a report that’s on a board? A: If you delete the original report, linked copies on boards will also be deleted.
