Toshiba T6W28

An enhanced SN76489 derivative with the same 4 channels, but with stereo (soft panning!) and noise frequency being fully independent of channel 3’s. This chip was used in Neo Geo Pocket.

Enhancements Over SN76489

  • Stereo output with soft panning capabilities
  • Independent noise frequency - not tied to channel 3 like the standard SN76489
  • Full compatibility with existing SN76489 music

Effects

EffectDescription
20xxSet noise mode. 0 = thin pulse, 1 = noise

Instrument Editor

This chip uses the T6W28 instrument editor.

Chip Configuration

The following options are available in the Chip Manager window:
  • Disable easy period to note mapping on upper octaves: Furnace maps the notes in the upper octaves to periods for easier noise tuning. This option allows you to disable this feature.
The independent noise frequency makes the T6W28 more flexible than the standard SN76489 for creating varied sound effects.
