Best Practices

Income and Expenses

  • Add up all income sources
  • Be realistic about expenses (don’t underestimate)
  • If expenses exceed income, explain in “Problemática Económica”
  • Spouse’s income should be included if you’re married
  • Use 3-month averages for variable expenses
  • Include annual expenses divided by 12
  • Don’t forget irregular expenses (car repairs, medical, etc.)
  • Be consistent with how you categorize
  • Be honest about debt issues
  • Explain if you’re working on solutions
  • Context matters (medical emergency vs. gambling)
  • Show you’re responsible even if struggling

Assets and Liabilities

  • Include all accounts, even small ones
  • Include joint accounts
  • Include accounts you rarely use
  • Closed accounts in past 12 months should be mentioned
  • List every credit card, even if paid off
  • Include informal loans if significant
  • If behind on payments, disclose it
  • Explain any defaulted loans
  • Use recent appraisals if available
  • Online estimates (like Zillow equivalent) are acceptable
  • Be conservative (don’t overestimate)
  • Update values if you know they’ve changed significantly
  • Report all income, even if small
  • Include cash businesses honestly
  • Rental income must be reported
  • Side gigs and freelance work count

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  1. Underreporting expenses - This makes your finances look unrealistic
  2. Forgetting accounts - List all bank accounts, even empty ones
  3. Hiding debts - They will be found in credit checks
  4. Overvaluing assets - Be realistic about what things are worth
  5. Not explaining deficits - If expenses > income, explain how you’re managing

Connection to Documents

You’ll need to upload financial documents in the Document Requirements section:
  • Permanencia: Comprobante de Ingresos (required)
  • Nuevo Ingreso: Comprobante de Ingresos (sometimes required)
  • Optional: Bank statements, proof of property ownership, etc.

Section Completion

The Economic Data section is complete when:
  1. Main financial summary is saved (income and expenses)
  2. All bank accounts are listed
  3. All debts/loans are listed
  4. Properties are listed (if you own any)
  5. Vehicles are listed (if you own any)
  6. Additional income sources are listed (if applicable)
You must have at least the main financial summary. Bank accounts, credits, properties, and assets should be added if you have them. It’s okay to have zero assets or debts, but the main form must be complete.

Troubleshooting

Totals don’t add up

Problem: Income or expense totals seem wrong. Solution: Double-check your math. Some forms auto-calculate, others require manual entry of totals.

Can’t add bank accounts

Problem: Bank account section not saving. Solution: Make sure you saved the main financial summary first. Sub-sections require the main form to be completed.

Financial deficit flagged

Problem: Expenses are higher than income. Solution: This is common. Explain in “Problemática Económica” how you manage (savings, family help, etc.).

Don’t own anything

Problem: No properties or vehicles to list. Solution: That’s fine. Not everyone owns property or vehicles. Just complete the main financial form and leave those sub-sections empty.
