Best Practices

Who to Include

  • Both parents (even if deceased or estranged)

  • Ex-spouse (especially if co-parenting children)
  • Distant cousins
  • Aunts/uncles you rarely see
  • Extended family with no regular contact

Accuracy Tips

  1. Use legal names: Use full legal names, not nicknames
  2. Be consistent: Use the same format for all entries
  3. Keep ages current: Use current age, not age when you last saw them
  4. Phone numbers: Use the most reliable contact number
  5. Dependent status: Be honest about financial dependents

Common Scenarios

  • Leave phone number empty

  • Still include them if immediate family (parent, sibling)
  • Enter what information you know
  • “No” for dependent status
  • Can leave phone number empty if unknown
  • Include children from all relationships
  • Include current spouse
  • May include ex-spouse if you co-parent
  • Include step-children if you support them
  • Always mark as “Sí” for dependent
  • Occupation: “Estudiante” or “Menor de edad”
  • Phone can be your own or their school
  • Mark as dependent only if you still support them financially
  • Use their actual occupation
  • Use their own phone number
