The Maintenance module manages aircraft maintenance services, including preventive maintenance programs, scheduled inspections, and maintenance service definitions.

Overview

This module focuses on maintenance service catalog management - the library of maintenance tasks and procedures that can be applied to aircraft and components.
Actual work order execution and planning is handled by the Planning module. The Maintenance module defines the service templates and task libraries.

Key Features

Service Management

Define maintenance services with detailed task breakdowns

Task Library

Create reusable maintenance task definitions with required parts

Manufacturer Programs

Link services to manufacturer maintenance manuals and programs

Part Requirements

Specify required articles and part numbers for each task

Maintenance Services

Service Structure

Each maintenance service includes:
Maintenance Service:
- Service name and description
- Origin manual (e.g., "AMM", "CMM", "MPD")
- Manufacturer reference
- Service type: AIRCRAFT or PART
- Associated tasks

Service Types

AIRCRAFT services apply to complete aircraft, such as:
  • A-Check, B-Check, C-Check inspections
  • Annual inspections
  • Progressive inspections
  • AD (Airworthiness Directive) compliance
  • SB (Service Bulletin) incorporation
These services contain multiple tasks across different aircraft systems.
PART services apply to specific components:
  • Engine overhaul procedures
  • Landing gear servicing
  • Avionics maintenance
  • Component inspections
Component services are specific to part numbers and configurations.

Maintenance Tasks

Tasks are the building blocks of services:

Task Definition

  • Description: Detailed task instructions
  • ATA Chapter: System classification (e.g., “32” for landing gear)
  • Task Number: Unique identifier from maintenance manual
  • Origin Manual: Source document (AMM, CMM, IPC, etc.)
  • Required Items: Parts and materials needed

Task Items

Each task can specify required articles:
Task Item:
- Article part number
- Alternative part numbers (if applicable)
- Article serial number (for serialized parts)
- Quantity required
- Consumption type (consumed, replaced, or inspected)

Manual References

Services link to manufacturer documentation:
Manual CodeDescription
AMMAircraft Maintenance Manual
CMMComponent Maintenance Manual
IPCIllustrated Parts Catalog
MPDMaintenance Planning Document
SRMStructural Repair Manual
WDMWiring Diagram Manual
TSMTroubleshooting Manual

Manufacturer Management

Maintenance services are organized by manufacturer:
  • Aircraft manufacturers (Boeing, Airbus, Cessna, etc.)
  • Engine manufacturers (Pratt & Whitney, GE, Rolls-Royce)
  • Component manufacturers
  • Manufacturer-specific maintenance programs

Service Workflow

1

Define Service

Create a new maintenance service with name, type, and manufacturer
2

Add Tasks

Build the service by adding maintenance tasks from manuals
3

Specify Parts

For each task, define required articles and part numbers
4

Use in Planning

The service becomes available for work order creation in the Planning module

Integration with Planning

When creating work orders in the Planning module:
  1. Select a maintenance service from the catalog
  2. Service tasks are automatically added to the work order
  3. Required parts generate material requisitions
  4. Task assignments and scheduling occur in Planning

Use Cases

Creating a Standard Inspection Service

  1. Create Service:
    • Name: “100-Hour Inspection”
    • Type: AIRCRAFT
    • Manufacturer: Cessna
    • Origin Manual: AMM
  2. Add Tasks:
    • Engine inspection (ATA 71)
    • Flight control check (ATA 27)
    • Landing gear inspection (ATA 32)
    • Fuel system inspection (ATA 28)
    • Avionics functional check (ATA 34)
  3. Specify Requirements:
    • Oil filters (P/N: 48108-1)
    • Fuel filter elements (P/N: 63201-5)
    • O-rings and gaskets
    • Inspection forms

Component Overhaul Service

Create a comprehensive overhaul service for a specific engine model:
  • Service: PT6A-21 Engine Overhaul
  • Manual: Pratt & Whitney CMM
  • Tasks:
    • Disassembly and cleaning
    • Dimensional inspection
    • NDT (Non-Destructive Testing)
    • Parts replacement per overhaul manual
    • Reassembly and test run
  • Required Parts:
    • Complete gasket set
    • Bearing assemblies
    • Seal kits
    • Life-limited parts per time limits

Service Management Features

Search and Filter

  • Find services by name or description
  • Filter by manufacturer
  • Filter by service type (aircraft vs. component)
  • Search by manual reference

Service Templates

Common services can be templated and reused:
  • Standard inspection packages
  • Manufacturer-recommended maintenance
  • Regulatory compliance checks
  • Custom organizational requirements

Best Practices

Service Organization Tips:
  • Use consistent naming conventions
  • Reference exact manual chapter and task numbers
  • Keep alternative part numbers updated
  • Review and update services when manuals are revised
  • Link related services for phased inspections

Reporting

The module provides visibility into:
  • Total services defined in the system
  • Services by manufacturer and type
  • Task complexity (number of tasks per service)
  • Parts requirements across services
