The Asset Library allows you to share assets across multiple productions in Kitsu. This feature enables teams to create a centralized repository of assets that can be reused in different projects, saving time and maintaining consistency.

Overview

The Asset Library provides:
  • Cross-production sharing: Share assets between multiple productions
  • Visual browsing: View assets grouped by asset type with preview thumbnails
  • Production filtering: Filter shared assets by their source production
  • Sorting options: Sort by name, production, creation date, or last update
  • Search functionality: Quickly find specific assets

Accessing the Asset Library

Navigate to the Asset Library from the main navigation menu. The library displays all shared assets across your organization.

Browsing Shared Assets

Asset Organization

Assets in the library are automatically grouped by asset type (Characters, Props, Environments, etc.). Each group displays:
  • Asset type name
  • Number of assets in that category
  • Visual grid of asset thumbnails

Asset Information

Each asset card shows:
  • Preview thumbnail (or placeholder if no preview is available)
  • Production avatar (indicating source production)
  • Asset name

Filtering and Searching

1

Filter by Production

Use the production dropdown to filter assets by their source production. Select “All” to view assets from all productions.
2

Search by Name

Use the search field to find assets by name. The search is real-time and updates results as you type.
3

Sort Results

Choose from multiple sorting options:
  • Name: Alphabetical order
  • Production: Grouped by source production
  • Created At: By creation date
  • Updated At: Most recently updated first

Managing Shared Assets

Asset library management features are only available to managers and admins.

Adding Assets to the Library

Managers can add assets to the shared library from the production asset page:
1

Select Assets

Navigate to the production’s asset page and select the assets you want to share.
2

Share Assets

Click the “Share” button and confirm to add the selected assets to the library.
3

Verify

The assets will now appear in the Asset Library and can be used in other productions.

Removing Assets from the Library

To remove assets from the shared library:
1

Access Management Panel

In the Asset Library, access the management panel in the sidebar.
2

Select Assets to Remove

Select the assets you want to remove from the library.
3

Unshare

Click the “Unshare” button to remove the assets from the library.
Removing an asset from the library will not delete it from its original production, but it will no longer be available to other productions.

Using Shared Assets

Shared assets can be used in the Breakdown tool to cast them in shots or other entities. When using shared assets:
  • Shared assets are marked with a distinct indicator
  • They maintain their original preview and data
  • Updates to the shared asset are reflected across all productions using it

Best Practices

Use clear, descriptive names for shared assets to make them easy to find and identify across productions. Include asset type or category in the name if helpful.
Always add high-quality preview images to shared assets. This makes visual browsing much more effective.
Keep asset types consistent across productions. This ensures proper grouping in the Asset Library.
The production avatar on each asset helps teams quickly identify where an asset originated, which is useful for questions or updates.
