Playlists allow you to collect and organize preview files for review sessions, dailies, and client presentations.

Overview

Playlists are curated collections of preview files from multiple entities (shots, assets, or sequences) that can be:
  • Played back sequentially
  • Shared with team members and clients
  • Built into downloadable video files
  • Annotated and reviewed collaboratively
Playlists automatically update when new preview versions are uploaded to included entities.

Creating Playlists

Create a new playlist:

Click New Playlist

Click the ”+” button in the playlist sidebar

Set Properties

Configure playlist name, entity type, and task type

Search and add shots, assets, or sequences

Playlist Types

Create playlists for different entity types:
Collect shots for sequence reviews:
  • Group by sequence
  • Ordered by shot number
  • Perfect for dailies and reviews

Adding Entities

Multiple ways to build your playlist:

Manual Selection

Click individual shots, assets, or sequences to add them:
  • Click to toggle selection
  • Selected entities show purple border
  • Already added entities are fully highlighted

Search and Filter

Use the search bar to filter: 
ex: seq01 anim=wfa
chars mode=wfa
SH01 comp=done
Then click “Add Selection” to add all filtered results.

Quick Build Options

Build Daily

Add all entities with previews uploaded today

Build Weekly

Add all pending entities with recent activity

Add Episode

Add all shots from the current episode (TV shows)

Add Movie

Add all shots from the production

Drag and Drop

Drag entities from the addition panel:
  • Drag entity thumbnails
  • Drop onto the playlist
  • Automatically inserts at drop position
Use “Build Daily” for quick daily review playlists, then manually add or remove specific shots as needed.

Playlist Player

The playlist player provides:

Playback Controls

  • Play/Pause: Spacebar or click
  • Next/Previous: Arrow keys or buttons
  • Scrub: Drag timeline or click position
  • Loop: Repeat current preview or entire playlist
  • Speed: Adjust playback speed

Preview Display

  • Full screen: Maximize preview area
  • Thumbnail strip: Navigate between entities
  • Entity information: Name, task type, status
  • Frame counter: Current frame and total frames

Annotations

Annotate previews while reviewing:
  • Draw: Freehand drawing on frames
  • Text: Add text annotations
  • Shapes: Circles, rectangles, arrows
  • Colors: Multiple color options
  • Persist: Annotations saved in real-time

Managing Playlists

Reordering Entities

Drag and drop thumbnails to reorder:
  • Click and drag entity thumbnail
  • Drop between other entities
  • Order saves automatically

Changing Previews

Select which preview to include:
  • Click version dropdown on entity
  • Choose from all available preview files
  • Organized by task type
  • Shows revision numbers

Removing Entities

Remove entities from playlist:
  • Click X icon on entity thumbnail
  • Removes from playlist (doesn’t delete entity)
  • Can re-add later if needed

Editing Playlist

Update playlist properties:
Change the playlist name for clarity
Switch which task type previews to show (updates all entities)
Toggle client visibility status
Cannot change after creation (create new playlist instead)

Task Type Filtering

Filter preview files by task type:
  • Set task type when creating playlist
  • Change task type in playlist settings
  • All entities update to show selected task type
  • Entities without that task type show placeholder
Changing the playlist task type updates all preview selections. This is useful when you want to review a different pipeline stage across all entities.

Client Playlists

Mark playlists for client review:
  • Purple background: Client playlists are visually distinct
  • For Client toggle: Enable in playlist settings
  • Access control: Only visible to clients when shared
  • Curated content: Include only approved work

Building Playlists

Generate downloadable video files:

Build Options

Generate video with default settings:
  • H264 encoding
  • 1920x1080 resolution
  • Ready for review

Build Jobs

Track build progress:
  • Running: Build in progress (spinner)
  • Succeeded: Download link available
  • Failed: Error indicator
  • Job history: Previous builds listed
Build jobs run on the server and can take several minutes depending on playlist length and resolution.

Playlist Notifications

When a playlist is ready:
  • Team members receive notification
  • Notification includes playlist name and link
  • Click to view the completed playlist
  • Shown in notifications with monitor icon

Sorting Playlists

Organize your playlist list:

Updated At

Most recently modified first (default)

Created At

Newest playlists first

Name

Alphabetical order
Sort preference is saved for your session.

Filtering Playlists

Filter playlists by task type:
  • Select task type from dropdown
  • Shows only playlists for that task type
  • “All” shows playlists of all types
  • Useful for department-specific playlists

Playlist List

The sidebar shows:
  • Thumbnail: First preview in playlist
  • Name: Playlist title
  • Updated date: Last modification time
  • Task type: Color-coded bar
  • For client: Purple background

Compact Mode

Toggle the sidebar to compact mode:
  • Click arrow icon to collapse
  • Shows only thumbnails
  • More space for player
  • Click arrow again to expand

Real-Time Updates

Playlists sync automatically:

New Playlists

Appear in your list when created by team members

Playlist Changes

Updates reflect in real-time when others edit

Build Jobs

Status updates as builds progress

Deletions

Removed from list when deleted
Real-time sync is paused while you’re actively adding entities to prevent conflicts. It resumes when you finish.

TV Show Episodes

For TV productions:
  • Episode filtering: Playlists are episode-specific
  • Episode selector: Switch between episodes
  • Main pack: Assets shared across episodes
  • All episodes: View playlists from all episodes

Best Practices

Use clear, dated names like “Daily Review 2024-03-04” or “Seq01 Animation WIP”.
Create playlists for specific task types to keep reviews focused on one department at a time.
Build daily or weekly playlists regularly to track progress and maintain momentum.
Maintain separate client playlists with only approved, polished work.
Arrange shots in story/sequence order for review clarity.
Delete old playlists after review sessions to keep the list manageable.

Permissions

Playlist access by role:
  • Artists: View playlists
  • Supervisors: Create, edit, delete playlists
  • Managers: Full playlist access
  • Clients: View playlists marked “for client”
  • Admins: Complete access
