Sequences are the primary organizational unit for shots in Kitsu. They represent distinct sections of your production, such as scene changes, locations, or narrative beats.

Overview

Sequence management provides:
  • Hierarchical organization: Sequences group related shots together
  • Episode support: For TV shows, sequences belong to episodes
  • Task tracking: View aggregate task status across all shots in a sequence
  • Metadata: Custom fields for sequence-specific information
  • Statistics: Time spent, estimation, and progress tracking

Sequence List

The sequence list displays all sequences in your production with:

Information Columns

  • Name: Sequence identifier (e.g., “010”, “020”, “Intro”)
  • Description: Brief description of the sequence
  • Task columns: Aggregated status for each task type
  • Statistics: Time spent and estimation totals

Task Aggregation

For each task type column, the sequence shows:
  • Number of shots at each status
  • Visual indicator of overall progress
  • Quick access to shot-level details

Best Practices

Use consistent sequence naming:
  • Numeric with padding: 010, 020, 030
  • Or descriptive names: “Opening”, “Chase”, “Finale”
  • Choose one style and stick with it
Determine appropriate sequence granularity:
  • Too few sequences: Hard to track progress
  • Too many sequences: Overhead in management
  • Align with narrative or location changes
Write clear sequence descriptions:
  • Brief summary of action or location
  • Reference to script or storyboard
  • Any special requirements or notes
Use sequence-level statistics:
  • Monitor overall progress
  • Identify bottlenecks
  • Balance workload across sequences
Add sequence-specific metadata for:
  • Location information
  • Time of day
  • Complexity rating
  • Special effects requirements
