Overview

Task types define the different stages of work in your production pipeline. Each task type represents a specific step (such as Modeling, Animation, or Compositing) that entities need to go through during production.
Task types can be configured for different entity types: Assets, Shots, Sequences, Episodes, and Edits.

Creating Task Types

From the Task Types Library

  1. Navigate to Settings > Task Types
  2. Click New task type
  3. Configure the following fields:
    • Name: The display name for the task type
    • Dedicated to: Choose which entity type this applies to (Asset, Shot, Episode, Sequence, or Edit)
    • Department: Assign to a department for supervisor access control
    • Description: Add details about what this task involves
    • Color: Set a color for visual identification
    • Priority: Define the order in the production pipeline
    • Allow timelog: Enable time tracking for this task type

Task Type Configuration

Type Categories Task types are organized by entity type:
  • Assets: Modeling, Rigging, Texturing, Shading, etc.
  • Shots: Layout, Animation, FX, Lighting, Compositing, etc.
  • Sequences: Editorial tasks at sequence level
  • Episodes: Episode-level production tasks
  • Edits: Edit assembly and finishing tasks
Priority Settings The priority field determines:
  • Display order in production views

Import/Export

Task type configurations can be:
  • Exported as CSV for backup or template creation
  • Imported to copy configurations between productions
  • Shared across projects in your organization
Task types are organization-wide settings that apply to all productions, ensuring consistency across your pipeline.

Best Practices

Maintain standard task type names across productions for consistency and reporting.
Order task types to match your actual production pipeline flow.
Choose distinct colors for quick visual identification in production views.
