What is a Production?
Productions organize all your project data in one place:- Assets and Shots specific to the project
- Task types and statuses tailored to your workflow
- Team members assigned to the project
- Episodes for TV shows and series
- Scheduling and timeline management
- Playlists for review sessions
Creating a Production
To create a new production:- Navigate to the Productions page
- Click the New Production button in the top-right corner

Fill in the production details:
- Name: The project name (e.g., “Robot Dreams Season 2”)
- Production Type: Choose between:
- Film/Short
- TV Show (enables episode management)
- Video Game
- Production Style: Select your production style (2D, 3D, Stop Motion, etc.)
- Status: Set the project status (Open, Closed, etc.)
- Start/End Date: Define your production timeline
- Click Confirm to create the production
New productions are automatically set to “Open” status and appear in your active projects list.
Managing Productions
Editing Production Details
Click the Edit icon next to any production to update:- Production name and dates
- Project status
- Production style or type
- Description and notes
Production Settings
Each production has configurable settings: Task Types: Define which task types (Modeling, Animation, Compositing, etc.) are available for this production. You can customize the workflow by adding or removing task types from the production. Task Statuses: Configure which statuses (WIP, Pending Review, Approved, etc.) are available for tasks in this production. Asset Types: For asset-based productions, define which asset categories are used (Characters, Props, Environments, etc.). Team Members: Assign artists, supervisors, and managers to the production. Team members can be assigned specific roles and departments. Metadata Descriptors: Add custom fields to track production-specific information on assets and shots.Production Statistics
View real-time statistics for your production:- Total number of assets and shots
- Task completion rates
- Time spent vs. estimated
- Team productivity metrics

Film and Shorts
Standard production setup with:- Asset library
- Shot breakdown
- Linear timeline
TV Shows
When you select “TV Show” as the production type, Kitsu enables:- Episode management: Organize shots and assets by episode
- Main pack: Shared assets across all episodes
- Episode-specific workflows: Track progress per episode
- Cross-episode reporting: View statistics across the entire series
Video Games
Game production setup with:- Level/scene organization
- Asset-heavy workflows
- Milestone tracking
Deleting a Production
To delete a production:- Click the Delete icon next to the production
- A confirmation modal will appear
- Type the production name exactly as shown to confirm deletion
- Click Confirm to permanently delete the production
Best Practices
Naming Conventions
Use clear, consistent naming:- Include season/episode info for TV shows: “Show Name S02”
- Add year for annual projects: “Holiday Special 2024”
- Keep names under 50 characters for better display
Team Organization
- Add all team members at the start of production
- Assign appropriate roles (Artist, Supervisor, Manager)
- Use departments to organize by discipline
